Match Report | North Devon HC 1st team suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss at home to Tavistock HC 1st last weekend. Disappointing because the North Devon side dominated the game for long periods of time, restricting the opposition to very few chances at goal.
Before the fixture, Tavistock had not won a game but showed good composure on the ball and were tough in the tackle.
The first real chance of the games fell to top scorer Guy Cockcroft, his reverse stick shot going just wide. The North Devon defence included South African duo Roger Casper and Jay Corden both showed great skill in the tackle to deny the strong running Tavistock team.
The best chance of the half again fell to Cockcroft, he put himself free and was absolutely floored by the Tavistock defender, a long suspension for the player but he had denied North Devon a clear opportunity at goal.
North Devon then conceded their only corner of the half, the first strike was charged down by Ben Cox but the rebound was bundled home.
1-0 at half time was not a true reflection of the game and North Devon soon drew level, an excellent burst through midfield saw Ash Thorne enter the circle and finish with an excellent shot over a stranded keeper.
Tavistock were hanging on at this point, a number of crude challenges saw the visiting team reduced in numbers. Man of the match Ben Cox, worked extremely hard in creating chances, but things would just not fall to the North Devon side.
Then the home team fell for a sucker punch, Tavistock won their second and final penalty corner of the game, Sam Wormington saved but parried the ball onto Jay Corden and it dribbled in.
North Devon had a chance on the final whistle, Cockcroft’s fierce shot saved brilliantly on the line by the Tavistock defender.
A disheartening result but, North Devon played well and just didn't have the luck on the day, next weekend they travel to Dawlish to play Teign HC. |
