Match Report | North Devon HC 1st team ended up on the wrong end of a 5-4 score line last weekend to Yeovil and Sherborne HC. To make things worse the opposition scored the final goal in the last play of the game.
North Devon yet again demonstrated that they can compete in the South Conference league, losing for the fourth consecutive game by a single goal. Unfortunately to stay in this league, the Devon side desperately need to start getting points, they now lie third bottom.
Yeovil started the game the better, moving the ball around nicely with forwards prepared to chase the ball down. Despite this North Devon resisted well, Mike Cuthbertson and Matt Brown tackling resolutely.
Eventually Yeovil took the lead, a drag flick from a corner beating Sam Wormington in goal. North Devon equalised pretty soon afterwards a trademark Guy Cockcroft strike hitting the backboard.
Yeovil then retook the lead, a reverse stick shot from another corner finding the North Devon goal.
2-1 down at half time, North Devon came out fighting Josh Godfrey equalised from a narrow angle before Cockcroft grabbed his second, from a great through ball from Phil Brand, and beautifully deceiving the goal keeper for a tap in.
As the game stretched, Yeovil started capitalising on mistakes, a hard strike into the circle luckily deflecting off an attacking stick, another corner strike saw Yeovil take the lead before man of the match Ash Thorne fired over a stranded goal keeper.
Then heartbreak as Yeovil won a disputed short corner on the final whistle, the set play saw the opposition striker place the ball past Sam Wormington and Yeovil took the points in a scintillating game.
Next week North Devon face Exeter University D, 12.00pm push back at the Uni. |
