North Devon HC 1st team suffered another defeat last weekend against Plymouth Marjon HC's 2nd team, losing 8-3.
North Devon showed off their new kit after securing sponsorship through It's in the Bag, a charity supporting testicular cancer in the South West. The shirts seems to bring them luck in the early minutes with Guy Cockcroft scoring from a penalty corner early on to stun the opposition.
Marjon's didn't waste much time in equalising, they played the ball at pace up to their young forward line, a quick one two saw the ball smashed past Sam Wormington in goal.
They soon extended their lead when a penalty corner was dispatched with aplomb into the top corner, Jay Corden as Post man hardly even saw it. North Devon seemed to lose a bit of heart after that and sat back, unfortunately thus just invited trouble with Marjon's scoring four further goals before half time. Cockcroft grabbed a second after an excellent pass from Dave Orr put him away and he beat the goal-keeper with ease.
At half time, Captain Phil Brand decided to change things around, moving Dom Cork into midfield and Giles Rowden to right back.
The change worked well, the defence seemed organised and Cork adding extra pace up front. Marjon's grabbed a seventh after a bouncing ball was missed by two players and an easy finish was applied. However Cockcroft completed his hat-trick with a deft touch in the circle. He could have bagged a fourth but a powerful volley just missed the post.
Debutant Ben Cox impressed at the back with Mike Cuthbertson and Matt Brown the defence only conceding two goals in the second half.
After the improved second half performance, the team were upbeat coming off the pitch, knowing that they have probably faced two of the best teams in the league already.
Next week they face Exeter Hornets, 2.00pm push back at Park School.
