Match Report

North Devon HC 1st team suffered a disappointing home defeat last weekend, 3-1 against PGSOB’s from Plymouth.

Both teams were equal on league points going into the game, and North Devon knew it was going to be a close match. The early stages were fairly even, the first real chance falling to Guy Cockcroft, he used his pace to create a one on one with an advancing keeper, the goalie just getting a touch on the ball to deny the home team.

PGSOB’s had their own chance when a ball flashed past the far post a stretching forward could not get the final touch.

North Devon took the lead from a disputed penalty corner but there was no dispute in the way Cockcroft finished with a fine strike. That was his tenth goal of the campaign, scoring in every game so far.

North Devon kept pushing forward and the odd opposition break was broken down by Mike Cuthbertson' Matt Brown and Jay Corden in defence.  The home side had some further chances, Ben Cox just failing to get a touch on a fierce Cockcroft touch and Ash Thorne rounding the keeper but being unable to finish from a narrow angle.

After the break an unfortunate injury to a PGSOB player saw the game stopped and an ambulance called.  After the re-start North Devon did not react well, a missed aerial saw a break by the away team, an unselfish pass saw Sam Wormington beaten.

A second goal soon came after a misunderstanding in defence saw a easy finish for PGSOB’s and the final goal game after North Devon pushed forward, a smart finish into the side netting by a Plymouth player.

A disappointing result for North Devon after dominating large periods of the game, next weekend they face Shepton Mallet away.
