Match Report | North Devon A carried their pre-season form into the first game of the new league season with a solid 6-2 win away to Sidmouth and Ottery. Despite the heat and early injury to centre back Simon Clements resulting in his withdrawing from the match, North Devon were able to reorganise and weather initial pressure from the home team.
A brace of goals from Jerry Rowe carrying an injury sustained in a crunching tackle, two from Gus Napier, including an unstoppable rocket to the top corner, and 2 more from birthday boy David Robinson rounded off a good day for the travelling team.
Coaching drills and pre-season training routines were in evidence as the squad began to gel in their first competitive match since March. “It’s early days, but building on Saturday’s performance and with a bit of consistency, pursuit of promotion is a realistic target for 2018/19” said captain Richard Owen.
The Club train on Wednesday nights at Park School Barnstaple 6.45pm - 8.45pm. All are welcome whether you are new players to the area, players returning after some time out or completely new to the game. |
