Match Report | Result – North Devon 4 – 0 PGSOB ‘A’ North Devon continued their good run of form by completing their fourth consecutive victory to keep hold of second place in the Verde Recreo Southern 1 league. With the reds being in a rich run of form and entertaining a PGSOB team that started the weekend second from bottom, there was expectation that North Devon would make short work of the opposition. Had the reds been more clinical, this would have been the case, with Phil Brand, Guy Cockcroft and Ash Thorne all being particularly wasteful in front of goal. Time was ticking towards half time with the scores 0-0, and only classy tackling from Matt Brown at centre back stopping some breakaway opportunities, before the deadlock was broken with a well taken goal by Cockcroft, ably assisted by Thorne.
At halftime captain David Orr was insistent that North Devon were more clinical and put more pressure on the visiting goalkeeper, and fortunately the reds rose to the occasion. Better movement and sharper passing resulted in youngster Reuben Windley getting his first goal for the club with a characteristic energetic run from left back. This seemed to break the stubborn resistance of PGSOB and soon David Orr finished off a simple passing move after forcing the goalkeeper into a fantastic scrambling save minutes before. There was still time for Cockcroft to score his second, and the reds could have scored more if it wasn’t for an off day for their forward line. North Devon travel to Dart in Totnes for a traditionally difficult fixture next weekend, with the form and confidence that should give them a strong chance of victory. |
