Match Report | North Devon 5-4 PGSOB A North Devon secured a hard fought win over PGSOB A on Saturday, running out 5-4 victors after the bottom of the league club put on a performance that was far better than their league position would indicate. The reds were confident from the outset, and took only 5 minutes to register a goal, David Orr slotting into the bottom corner having been put through by Ash Thorne. Orr then turned provider a couple of minutes later, putting a neat deflection on a through ball for Thorne to beat the defender and drill inside the near post. North Devon then seemed to take their foot off the gas, which allowed PGSOB back in to the game. A rather fortuitous bobbling ball from a short corner saw them get on the scoresheet, and then another short corner brought them level. The reds went in at half time at 2-2, and were naturally disappointed not to have capitalised on the early good work. The second half brought a better work ethic from all in North Devon colours, and despite conceding again due to some questionable marking, the Reds made their greater quality tell, with Joe Hastie and Sam Kirkness bossing midfield. A quick equaliser came from striker Guy Cockcroft on a short corner, and Orr then showed good skills and composure to weave past a defender and the prone keeper before finishing in the empty net. There was still time for a little uncertainty despite Orr completing his hattrick, when an extremely questionable umpiring decision allowed PGSOB a soft goal, but North Devon closed out the game to emerge victorious. The reds face Dart next week at West Buckland school. |
