Match Report | North Devon 4 - 3 Truro A
North Devon produced an excellent performance on Saturday to dispatch Truro A and do the double over the Cornish side for the first time in years. Starting the day 4 points ahead of Truro, the reds were anticipating a tough game against an opposition that have always been well organised. North Devon started on the front foot, with plenty of possession through midfielders Ben Andrew, Joe Hastie and Phil Brand, and indeed were unlucky not to take the lead when Brand made an excellent run, but was foiled by good work from the visiting keeper. The pressure was building, and good work from the back line kept chances to a minimum, but Truro did take the lead through a lucky short corner totally against the run of play. This seemed to spark the reds into action, with a succession of short corners resulting in Sam Kirkness finding Ash Thorne at the back post to steer in his 19th goal of the season. Half time arrived with the scores level and North Devon were keen to build on the good work they had done in the first half. North Devon raced out of the blocks in the second half, stringing together some slick passages of play and lengthy spells of possession, and it was only a matter of time before they took the lead, with Thorne and David Orr both a pace off crosses into the circle. It took some excellent play from Ben Andrew and Joe Taylor-Richards to set up Thorne for his second of the game. Goals soon then followed for Taylor-Richards and Orr, despite some excellent work by the visiting keeper and it seemed that the game was won. North Devon did switch off a little, and this did make the final few minutes interesting after conceding a further 2 goals, but the reds saw out the game to record another win and strengthen their position in the top 4. |
