Match Report | North Devon 1st XI celebrated a 4-2 victory over Plymouth Marjon B in their first home game of the season, at their interim venue of Kingsley School, Bideford. North Devon took a three goal lead into half-time, through an opening goal by Phillip Brand and a further two by Ashley Thorne, who is making himself a real menace at the back post this season. Marjons came back strongly in the second half, scoring two quickfire goals. It was only when Man of the Match Ashley Thorne fired in his third of the day, with two minutes to go, that North Devon began to feel assured of the three points. "It has been a difficult start to the season for us, having only secured a home pitch to play on this week", noted Captain David Orr after the match. "Therefore, I think our lack of fitness and sharpness showed in the second half. However, I always knew we would be mentally tough enough to close out the game." |
