Match Report |
North Devon A continued their fine start to the season with a hard-fought victory over Mid Somerset A. Despite a two hour journey from Wells, the visitors started strongly. However, well taken goals from Simon Allen and Ed Waterman gave the hosts a comfortable lead at the break. This was in no small part due to Gerrie de Beer, who turned in an outstanding performance on debut, as well as some fluent approach play. Despite Andy’s advice at half-time, North Devon lost their shape in the second half as they struggled to cope with the visitors’ high press. Phil Daniels was called into action a few times and the defence cleared several efforts off the line. After several missed chances and penalty corners, Mid Somerset managed to pull a goal back, setting up a tense final few minutes. However, North Devon managed to hang on for the precious three points. Many thanks to Trevor and John for umpiring, to our spectators and to Kingsley School for hosting. A number of good performances today, but Gerrie was a well-deserved MoM. DoD was probably Ed for his extraordinary attempt at an aerial which nearly brained a visiting spectator. Great effort by the youngsters too, with Jolyon, Fionn and Oscar working really hard. A messy win, but with three from three things are looking good for the future.
