Match Report

North Devon hosted Plymouth Marjons 3rds at Park School in their latest league match.

The home side's preparations were disrupted in the warm-up by an injury to top scorer Pete Smale and the early exchanges saw North Devon struggling to get a grip on the game and affording the opposition too much time and space. Thankfully when Marjons did breakthrough the combination of man of the match Reuben Windley, Per Hampton and Mike Cuthbertson at the back kept the away side's chances to a minimum and goalkeeper Sam Wormington was on his usual fine form. North Devon started to establish themselves and applied more pressure on the Marjon defence, creating several half-chances but were unable to find the final pass or finish. The game was to be settled on penalty corners, North Devon earning several through the tireless running of Joe Taylor-Richards and Phil Brand and the silky stick skills of Giles Rowden. The first goal coming shortly before half-time when a well worked move saw Ash Thorne deflect the ball in on the far post. The second half followed a similar pattern, another well worked corner routine saw skipper Dave Orr double the home side's lead before Marjons hit back with a penalty corner of their own. Thorne had the final word on the game with his second far post deflection and the 4th penalty corner goal of the game. The match finishing 3-1 to the Reds. The victory and other results saw North Devon climb back to 2nd place in the league and close the gap on league leaders Okehampton.

The team now enter a pivotal stage of the season with a tough trip away to Truro before hosting Okehampton.
