North Devon 1's endured a tough afternoon down in Truro this weekend, losing 5-1 against an organised and disciplined Truro 2nds.

Shorn of many first team regulars through injury and unavailability, it was a unfamiliar midfield and centre back pairing for the Reds and Truro were quick to press their advantage. An early goal settled Truro into their rhythm, and a second came courtesy of a penalty stroke, despite stout defending on the line by defender Mike Cuthbertson and goalkeeper Sam Wormington.

Another slick move from Truro saw them carve through for their third within the first 15 minutes, and there were worries that North Devon might fall apart. However, they began to get to grips with the game and opportunities started to come, though they were unable to truly test the Truro keeper.

Half time arrived and the Reds regrouped, and went at Truro hard in the beginning of the half. A series of short corners eventually broke the home defence, with Ben Andrews scoring a powerful flick. This pressure was unfortunately short-lived, with Truro restoring their three goal lead shortly after. Despite piling forward and further short corners awarded, North Devon were unable to score further and through leaving space a fifth goal came for Truro.

A game played in excellent spirit, and the Reds will look to regroup before a home game against second in the league Okehampton next week.
