North Devon Vs Dart

North Devon travelled down to Totnes on Saturday to take on bottom of the table Dart H.C, needing a win to confirm second place in the table in the final game of the season.

North Devon started in electric fashion, midfielder Ben Cox sweeping in the loose ball after good work from strikers Ash Thorne and Guy Cockcroft within the first two minutes. However, Dart rallied quickly and were soon level, with defenders left isolated Sam Wormington in goal was unable to stop a clever finish from the Dart forward.

That was as good as it got for Dart, as relentless pressing, quality passing and ruthless finishing saw Thorne score 4 in the first half, including a lovely reverse volley, and more goals for Cockcroft, Sam Kirkness and Gerrie de Beer meant that the reds went in at half time 8-1 up.

Understandably North Devon eased up in the second half sunshine, and Dart never seriously threatened Wormington again in goal. The reds were more wasteful in front of goal in the second half, but there was still time for Thorne and Cockcroft to add another each, and skipper David Orr to sweep in another. Midfielder Joe Hastie was unlucky not to score his first of the season in the dying minutes, putting a delicate lob just over despite the best efforts of Orr to guide it in.

North Devon ended up winning 11-1, which caps off a fantastic season finishing second in the league.
