Back to Hockey 2017
Taw Valley and North Devon Hockey Clubs have worked together over the last 6 weeks to provide free coached Hockey sessions for Adults who want to come back to Hockey. Some of the ladies who came along played Hockey last a few years ago. One or two last played at school 20 years ago. It was clear to see after only a short time that the ladies were better than they thought and the sessions moved on to game play with a quickening pace as the weeks went on. By providing tailored sessions it is hoped several ladies will consider joining Taw Valley Hockey Club in the Autumn.
On the other half of the pitch Juniors from local schools were invited to try 6 free sessions for themselves.
Over 20 youngsters tried most of the sessions and really improved their skills and knowledge of Hockey.
A tournament night was held on the last evening and players were then invited to enjoy some tea and cake whilst finding out more about the future plans for junior hockey.
From September Juniors from 7- 14 can train with Taw Valley on a Tuesday nights in term times. Qualified coaches will be on hand to enhance skills and techniques as well as offering Tournament opportunities against other Clubs in Devon.
Junior players aged 14-16 will be able to access coaching through the new North Devon Academy which will run on Sunday mornings.
Adult training at both Clubs resumes in August with Ladies training on a Tuesday night and Men on a Wednesday ahead of league matches which run from September to March.
Should anyone have any enquiries regarding local hockey or would like to attend training or join one of the clubs please feel free to contact Nick Howells on 07929058926.
